Oakville is made up of 17 unique residential neighbourhoods spread fairly evenly north and south of the QEW.
The city has a great variety of homes, including:
- New starter homes.
- Older, large homes on sizable waterfront properties.
- Midsized homes built in the last 40 years.
Homes in neighbourhoods close to Lake Ontario, like Southwest Oakville, Central Oakville, Bronte or Ford enjoy the cool breeze coming off the lake in summer, but contend with some of the coldest gales through the winter.
Many of these homes face the weather with single pane windows and old, inefficient sliding patio doors. Not much to keep the winter chill at bay. What’s worse, we think, is the windows and doors we see in many homes we drive by do a disservice to the beauty of the home itself. The windows and doors, sometimes more than 20 years old, look battered, run down.
What’s to do if you live south of the QEW in Oakville?
- Upgrade to new, beautiful double or triple pane windows.
- Install new patio sliding doors and fibreglass front entry doors.
- Outfit the new windows with shutters or some high quality blinds
Homes in these desirable areas were built with quality materials, but the technology has changed, improved, and now homeowners in Oakville’s southern neighbourhoods are upgrading in a hurry.
North of the QEW
North of the QEW, areas like College Park, Glen Abbey, Joshua Creek and Rivers Oaks feature a great variety of new and established homes.
Established homes in the area were built before the revolution that saw window and door energy efficiency, durability and over quality skyrocket. An upgraded steel insulated door can maintain the beautiful façade of your home while new casement windows can give you a clearer view of the mature trees and kids playing in the neighbourhood. In areas with nice outdoor spaces, like those located across Glen Abbey and the West Oak Trails we always recommend windows with great visibility and as little obstruction as possible.
New homes, those erected in the last 10 years, across this area are built with entry level windows designed to save homebuilders money without looking the part. Upgrading to new single hung windows with warm, stylish drapes can make your new home stand out from the crowd.
